After a long and happy life Betty passed away at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital in Dunnville on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the age of 90. Predeceased by her husband Rev. Henry Schmidt (1996). Dearly loved by her family: sons Len (Brenda), Rick (Mary), Dan (Shelley) and Edward (Karen); grandchildren Sarah, Dana, Erin, Sherri (Steve), Jonathan (Darlene), Mark (Caroline), Zachary (Lynsey), Emily, Miles; and great-grandchildren Sadie, Maggie, Maxwell, Leah, Caleb, Aiden, Owen, Harper, and baby soon-to-be; siblings Lillian (Dietrich) Dyck, Henry (late Sue) Schroeder, Mary (Vic) Markowitz, and late Rudy (Alma) Schroeder. Betty liked having lunch or coffee with friends, and family dinners. She also enjoyed quilting with the ladies at Rainham Mennonite Church. Betty’s love of life, sense of humour, and love for her family has inspired all of us to be better people. Raising 4 boys with grace, humour and love was part of her legacy, and we learned from her that, “If you wanna fight go outside!” Grandma’s apple pie will be missed. Friends will be received for visitation at BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, 315 Broad St. E., Dunnville on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. A funeral service will take place at Wainfleet BIC Church (Corner of Hwy 3 and Perry Rd.) on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 1 p.m. (with visitation one hour prior). Burial at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Wainfleet. Donations in memory of Betty may be made to Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation, Mennonite Central Committee, or Wainfleet BIC would be sincerely appreciated.
